The Implications of Points
The way i judge a player's perfomance is if he gets over 20 points in a match, that's a decent perfomance. Over 30 is excellent, over 50 exemplary, and so on. Ofcourse the central defenders don't see as much action, so for them 15+ is a decent perfomance. Player with the most points usually wins the 'Man of the Match'. On exceptions a player may perform a crucial role and still be the 'Man of the Match' despite not having the most points.
For a team the points total from all players is added. If the total is 200+ then the team has played quite well. My personal best is 329 match points for Vitesse Arnhem last season. A team may play poorly and still get away with a win. The points system allows you to see week-by-week how your team's as well as a player's perfomance is changing, for better or worse. You can do averages to judge whether a player should be dropped due to a lack of effort or whether a reserve should get a chance due to his consistant high points total.
(A special mention to Sam Wilson for originally concieving the idea.)
